El Salvador
These waterfalls are naturally beautiful and a popular swimming hole where you can literally dive in.
Not far from the famed Playa El Tunco, the Tamanique Waterfalls offer a different kind of tropical attraction. At the trailhead to the falls, you might find locals offering their services as a guide - a worthwhile investment if you’re not comfortable exploring the jungle by yourself. After a relatively steep hike 30-minute hike (wear appropriate shoes!) you’ll feel the mists of the first waterfall. About 10 meters tall with a deep pool, this first cascade is popular for cliff diving, with a reasonable 2-meter jumping-off point for the adventurous-but-not-that-adventurous. Another scramble brings you to the main attraction - a 40 meter long ribbon of water plummeting into a fresh pool in a rocky ravine. This stop isn’t recommended for young children or those with mobility issues.
