Cajas National Park

A green and vibrant wilderness, this Andean wetland is perfect for hikers and nature lovers.

About

Once registered at the visitor centre there are many tracks and trails that can be traversed in the lofty Cajas National Park. Although many of them involve a climb that can take all day, there are plenty that are flat and can be easily achieved in a couple of hours. Though these kinds of walks may be shorter they are no less dramatic, taking in lush green grass, hardy corse bushes, rocky hills and mirrored lakes. The bird population is particularly vibrant here. A couple of things you’ll need to be prepared for is rain and the altitude. Sturdy, waterproof shoes and waterproof clothing is a must as there is often rain here (hence the multitude of lakes), and the going will likely be wet underfoot. Also be prepared for the touch going to comes with hiking at 3900m as altitude sickness is a possibility at this height.
