How to get from Split to Budapest

You can use several options to travel from Split to Budapest. The cheapest option to travel from Split to Budapest is the bus. The fastest way to travel from Split to Budapest is by flight though do not forget about waiting times at the airport. There is no direct connection between Split to Budapest unless you are travelling from the beginning of June to September end when there is a night train running between these 2 cities. To make this journey easier it is certainly better to avoid any other changes along the way except Zagreb. To achieve that you need to go to the Main Railway station Split and buy a ticket to Zagreb Glavni Kol - direct connection. There are 2 trains a day, the first train is at 8:33 AM, and the last train is at 9:54 PM. The train from Split to Zagreb is run by HŽ Passenger Transport, with train tickets from Split to Zagreb costing between €25-€30 for the 6.5 hour trip. The distance from Split to Zagreb to Split is about 410 kilometers.Once you reach Zagreb Glavni Kol you can buy a ticket to Budapest. The train departs every day at 4:38 PM. Please note, even though you can purchase an online ticket, you will anyway need to pick up the actual paper ticket at the Ticket Collection Points located at railway station before your journey. The train from Zagreb to Budapest is operated by Mav Start, with train tickets from Zagreb to Budapest costing €20 on average for the 5.5 hour trip. The distance from Zagreb to Budapest is about 350 kilometers. Trains have bathrooms on board, and usually offer a dining car.

Split to Budapest by bus

To travel from Split to Budapest by bus, there are several journey options but none of them is a direct transfer. You will have to hop off the bus in Zagreb and with the same ticket hop on another bus that goes from Zagreb to Budapest. To buy the ticket you can go to Split, Autobusni Kolodvor and buy a ticket to Budapest, Könyves Kálmán körút or Budapest, Kelenföld vasútállomás Etele tér or to Budapest, Mexikói Út M. While you can buy your ticket at the station, it’s best to purchase them in advance. The earliest bus is at 5:00 AM, and the last bus is at 11:59 PM, with 2 busses leaving at 5AM, 10AM and 11:59 PM. The bus from Split to Budapest is run by Flixbus, with bus tickets from Split to Budapest costing between €30-€39 for the 11 hour 30 minutes trip. The distance from Split to Budapest is about 750 kilometers.All options offer direct service from Split to Budapest.

Split to Budapest Flight

To travel by plane, you need to get to Split Airport (SPU). As usual with flights, you’ll want to buy your tickets in advance. There are no directs flights to Split from Dubrovnik, the shortest flight takes 3 hours 50 minutes and includes 2! changes. The plane tickets cost around €385  for the approximate 6 hours flight from Split to Budapest. It’s recommended to arrive at the airport 2 hours before the flight, making this the slowest and most expensive option.
