To Grand Canyon Village, AZ On the Precipice of Greatness
The Grand Canyon Village can trace its roots back to the end of the 19th century. Many of the buildings in the historic district were built by the Santa Fe Railroad Company in the early 20th century, and designed by Mary Colter, one of the country’s first and foremost female architects. The log train depot is one of the last buildings of its kind in the country, and is still in use! While Mary Colter’s Hopi House has been offering Native American crafts since it was built in 1904. The historic district leads right to the edge of the canyon, where you can take in the amazing views from Mary’s Lookout Studio, or the home photographic studio of the Kolb brothers - the first Grand Canyon’s pioneering photographers. Of course, the highlight is the hiking trail (or bus if you’re not up for a walk) along the rim of the Grand Canyon.
