Mikulov to Znojmo

The historic and charming town of Znojmo sits majestically on a rocky outcrop overlooking the River Dyje in the heart of the Czech wine region.

From MikulovThe Heart of Czech Wine Country

Often favoured by visitors with a more active approach to life, Mikulov has much to offer. Surrounded by idyllic countryside, crisscrossed by bicycle paths and marked hiking trails, and the nearby Nové Mlýny lakes, there is something for everyone to enjoy. After all that fresh air, a glass of wine will be more than welcome, and fortunately, Mikulov is the centre for Czech wine making. Due to a high concentration of limestone in the local soil, wine from this region has a unique character and distinct taste. If you like your wine with a side-serving of history, Mikulov Castle dates from the 1730s, and the Dietrichstein Tomb is the final resting place of a Bohemian noble family. Mikulov is also significant for its strong Jewish history. In the early 1800s Mikulov's Jewish Quarter was the largest in Moravia with half the town's inhabitants being of Jewish faith.

To Znojmo A town for every taste

To capture a unique snapshot of what Znojmo has to offer, simply take a stroll along the historic medieval city walls that enclose this historic Renaissance-style town with a center brimming with churches, crooked lanes, and endless picturesque nooks and crannies. Almost all the walls are still preserved, and there are various towers and strongholds along the way. The views across the valley through which the River Dyje runs are simply jaw-dropping, no matter the time of the year. The town center, which dates back to the eleventh-century, is easy to navigate on foot. Visitors can choose from a plethora of attractions, whether it be exploring the castle, one of the many churches or the fascinating underground complex of tunnels and cellars that run underneath the town. Of course, few visitors leave Znojmo without sampling and taking away some of the local wines available from one of the many outlets in the town.
