From Ljubljana Green Capital of Europe
Wedged between Austria and Italy, Ljubljana is small in surface area but large in terms of hospitality and quality of life. It was awarded the “Green Capital of Europe” for 2016. The city features a plethora of theaters, museums, and galleries and is home to one of the oldest philharmonic orchestras in the world. Stop by the Ljubljana Castle to check the marvelous view from its Tower and walk the Three Bridges over the Ljubljanica River into Old City. Traffic is restricted in the city center, leaving the banks of the river free for pedestrians and cyclists. With a name (according to one theory) meaning “beloved”, how could you not love it?
To Maribor A charming little Slovenian city
It’s the second largest city in Slovenia and the capital of region Štajerska (Slovenian Styria). Maribor is tucked in between wine-growing hills and the Pohorje Mountains. In its center grows the oldest vine in the world (over 450 years). Old Vine House, a temple of wine tradition and culture, highlights exhibitions and excellent wines. Just north of the river Drava, the Old Town is comprised of noteworthy attractions such as the Castle Square (Grajski Trg), the Main Square (Glavni trg), the Maribor Cathedral (with observation tower), the Maribor Synagogue, as well as art galleries and theaters.
