To Murcia Medieval Munchies

Founded as a fortified Moorish city in 831, there are still sections of the original walls scattered throughout the historic center, and the Santa Clara Museum offers the opportunity to take a closer look at Moorish artefacts. While the city is filled with baroque architecture, it is perhaps best experienced in the Plaza Cardenal Belluga. Here, visitors can visit the grand, 18th century Episcopal Palace, with a Rococo façade and Churrigueresque courtyard. Next to it is the 14th century Cathedral, with blends a variety of architectural styles, with its richly sculpted Baroque façade, and accented Gothic interior. The city also offers some unique 19th century architecture, such as the neo-lavish Casino, a gambling house that incorporates Moorish elements to the usual Romanticist motifs. For a detailed look at the city’ past, the Archaeological Museum exhibits artefacts from the various cultures that have inhabited the area.
