War Museum of Kalpaki

More than a museum, this is a monument to the locals’ bravery and tenacity in the face of a superior force.

War Museum of KalpakiNo Means No

In November, 1940, outmanned and outgunned Greek forces pushed back the advancing Italians, giving the Allies their first major victory. The War Museum of Kalpaki commemorates this morale-boosting event, and the local community’s role in it, displaying artefacts ranging from posters, to weapons and uniforms, to photographs. Across the street, the monument is inscribed with the word ‘oxi’ (Greek for ‘no’) - the locals' reply to Italy's ultimatum.
