Umhlanga Seaside on the Rise
Umhlanga can trace its roots back to a single seaside cottage that was built in 1863 - before the town had even been founded. That cottage has since grown into the luxury Oyster Box hotel, a national icon that was even featured in the South African version of Monopoly. The town has likewise grown into a sought-after seaside suburb. For many locals, nothing beats strutting the seaside promenade, watching the waves from the whalebone pier, or simply soaking up the sun on the sandy beach, and visitors flock to the town to do the same. Afterwards, there is a bounty of restaurants and cafes in which to re-energize.
