The Goritsa Waterfall

This picturesque cascade bears the name of the girl who leapt from a cliff rather than be separated from her true love.

The Goritsa WaterfallFalling for Love

Tumbling nearly 130 feet into a small pool, this beautiful setting is a favourite picnic place for locals looking to relax. However, the waterfall is also tied to a tragic love story. According to legend, under Ottoman rule, the Turkish governor sent his men to kidnap the beautiful Goritsa. Madly in love with her boyfriend Jovitsa, she fled the Turks and threw herself from a cliff rather than be separated for the love of her life. The locals named this beautiful waterfall in her honor. This stunning site is accessible by a 15-minute walk from the nearby village.
