Salto El Limon

It’s worth the jungle trek to see this beautiful cascade.

About

Salto El Limon is a striking 130-foot cascade high in the Samaná mountains. To reach it, you first have to hike 1.5-miles through the lush forest where native plants like the royal palm tree, and pineapples abound and palmchats (the DR’s national bird) flit through the trees. If you're not up for a fairly demanding hike, there’s another option: horses! A number of locals are at the entrance who will guide you and your horse up to the falls (and to a stand where you can rehydrate with some cocktails). No matter how you choose to get up to Salto El Limon, taking a refreshing dip in an emerald green pool beneath a towering cascade makes it worth the trip. There’s even a second waterfall tucked away in the woods that offers a more tranquil swimming option.
