Founded in 1989, the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary raises and gives shelter to abandoned and orphaned elephants that otherwise wouldn’t have survived in the wild. The Elephant Sanctuary became a popular destination soon after its creation as it’s probably the best place to come face-to-face with an endangered Asian elephant. Visitors can see these animals being fed and bathed, and if the water levels are high enough, can even sign up to help bathe one of these gentle giants (so pack a bathing suit)! But the Sanctuary is more than just an attraction: along with raising awareness, they’ve actively helped relocate over 400 elephants into the wild!
