Kim Lien

Visitors flock to this quiet rural village to see the childhood home of one of the most influential people of the 20th century.

About

Kim Lien looks like most other rural villages in Vietnam, surrounded by rice paddies, dramatic mountains and green bamboo. However, what put this village on the map is its ties to President Ho Chi Minh. The man who would bring Communism to Vietnam spent the first several years of his life here in traditional timber house that was erected in 1901 by locals in celebration on his father receiving high results in national examination. The house has been preserved in its original form, and is still filled with the simple objects of a Confucianism family like traditional brushes and ink boxes, as well as ubiquitous rural furnishings like bamboo mats and rice mortar. The surrounding garden is lush and surprisingly diverse, thanks in part to the many souvenir trees grown by guests who have visited this place.
