Castle of LamiaShelter through the Ages

During recent excavations, archaeologists found evidence showing the castle site has been in use since around 2800 BC. The castle itself was fortified in the 5th century BC, and sections of these ancient walls still stand today. Over the course of its long history, the fortress has resisted the invading armies of the French, the Catalans, and the Ottomans. After the Greek revolution and established modern Greece, it sheltered Greek soldiers up through WWII. Today, visitors can see the remains of this historical site and learn about the castle's story in the archaeological museum located inside the fortress.
