California State Railroad MuseumThe History of the Iron Horse
The California State Railroad Museum offers a fascinating insight not just into the history of trains, but how they changed American society. The 21 beautifully restored locomotives and cars, some dating back to 1862, showcase the evolution of these revolutionary machines. Some of them you can even walk through! Paired with these are exhibits covering everything from how tracks were laid to the lives of railroaders and the diversity of workers. And that’s just the first floor. Upstairs, there’s plenty of smaller exhibits, model trains, and rides to keep the little ones entertained. On weekends during the summer, you can even take a 40-minute excursion on one of the historic trains! For more information, please visit www.californiarailroad.museum
