Atyra is home to extensive natural and geological attractions with locals dedicated to environmental preservation. The town is often considered by the government to be one of the cleanest places in Paraguay with residents taking pride in keeping the streets clean. In addition to natural attractions, Atyra is home to historic colonial architecture as well as impressive newer builds. The Marianela complex was built in 2007 by a Redemptorist congregation with assistance from a patrons in Verona, Italy. Visitors to the complex can marvel at the striking Medieval-style architecture and expansive grounds. Make sure to go to the Church of Atyra to get a glimpse of the original 18th century altar. Before leaving, don’t forget to pick out some leather goods made by local artisans that have specialized in the traditional art of ‘talabartería’ for centuries.
