How to get from Warsaw to Krakow

If you’re travelling from Warsaw to Krakow,  you have several travel options. For travellers on a budget, the bus is the cheapest way to travel from Warsaw to Krakow. The fastest way to travel from Warsaw to Krakow is by train, though a car is of course the best way to travel from Warsaw to Krakow since it’s so convenient. It’s also possible to take a flight from Warsaw to Krakow, but with airport waiting times it is an expensive option that doesn’t end up saving you much time. 

Warsaw to Krakow by train

To travel from Warsaw to Krakow by train, you’ll need to get to the Warszawa Centralna station and purchase a ticket to Krakow Glowny, or you can buy your tickets in advance online. The earliest train leaves Warsaw at 5:56 AM, and the last train leaves at 9:15 PM, with trains departing hourly. The train from Warsaw to Krakow is operated by Polish Railways Intercity Transfers, with train tickets from Warsaw to Krakow costing 30 EUR on average. The distance from Warsaw to Krakow is about 292 km and takes approximately 2 and a half hours, making this a quick and affordable option. Trains have bathrooms on board, and usually offer a dining car. 

Warsaw to Krakow by bus

There are two main bus companies that provide service from Warsaw to Krakow for as little as 3 EUR, Flixbus and Ecolines. Busses depart from a few different stations in Warsaw, including Plac Defilad, Dworzec Autobusowy Metro Młociny, Metro Wilanowska, and Warsaw Dw. Zachodni. All busses arrive at Krakow’s main station, Dworzec Autobusowy.  The 292 km journey takes about 4 and a half hours by bus and depart every hour from Warsaw starting at 6:35 AM. The last bus leaves at 11:45 PM. You can buy your tickets at the station, although it’s recommended to get these online in advance. All options offer direct service from Warsaw to Krakow.

Warsaw to Krakow by flight

To travel by plane, you need to get to Warsaw international Airport. As usual with flights, you’ll want to buy your tickets in advance. For travelling such a short distance, only direct flights make sense. The plane tickets cost around €50 for the 55 minute flight from Warsaw to Krakow, so it is more expensive than taking a bus or a train and doesn’t save you too much time if you arrive at the airport 2 hours before the flight, as recommended.
