Kampong Kdei Bridge

The Kampong Kdei Bridge was built in the 12th century during the heydey of Cambodia’s legendary Angkor Empire, and is one of the last surviving bridges from the era. Despite its historical importance, the bridge’s quality and location were such that it was used on the main highway until 2006. Spanning 285 feet, and with corbeled stone-arches, it’s the longest bridge of its kind in the world. Each end of the bridge is marked with carvings of the legendary 9-headed Naga. The Kampong Kdei Bridge is so architecturally, historically, and culturally significant that it’s on the 5000 riel note!
